Experimental facilities
Important information: The Fourier Spectrometer and the magnet cryostat have been transferred to the group of Prof. Dr. G. Scalari, while the UV/NIR spectrometer is now located by the group of Prof. Dr. D. Rupp at the Physics Department of ETH Zurich.
Our experimental facilities offered the possibility to measure the reflectivity spectrum from the far infrared (FIR) up to the ultraviolet (UV) as a function of temperature and magnetic field.
IR-spectroscopy laboratory
Our infrared (IR)-spectroscopy laboratory was equipped with a Fourier spectrometer combined with an Oxford cryostat (SM4000). This facility allowed us to perform IR optical investigations from 300 down to 1.8 K in external magnetic fields from 0 up to 8 T.
A specially designed optics by Bruker extracts the IR beam from our Vertex 80v (picture and specifications below), allowing measurements in reflection mode. The cryostat is equipped with suitable optical windows, which permits measurements from far-IR (FIR) up to the mid-IR spectral range.
Additionally, we operated a Janis cryostat placed on top of our Vertex 80v (see picture below), which exploited a dedicated optical reflectivity unit with windows in FIR up to near-IR spectral ranges.
For the high-frequency spectral range from the near-IR up to the UV we employed a Perkin Elmer spectrometer (picture and specifications below) at room temperature.
